Definition: A state or instance of serious or continued difficulty or misfortune.
Adversity comes in so many different forms and can be physical, mental, emotional, or - often - an intricate combination of all three. Adversity creates real pain and can be accompanied by fear, anguish, and despondency. It can also incite anger and spur furious, violent action. People talk a lot about the power of overcoming adversity. There is much to be gained from tackling a challenge head on. But sometimes, a state of adversity is a long-term prospect. Where we cannot overcome in an immediate sense. In this instance, it can be wise to slow down: identify the opportunities inherent in the adversity in order to better understand how you, specifically, can tackle problems that will make a difference and make you stronger.
- Adversity can highly tune and put you in touch with your own, powerful, natural instincts and survival mechanisms.
- Adversity creates opportunities.
- Adversity inspires risk taking.
- Adversity exposes weaknesses.
- Adversity creates a sense of higher purpose.
We can’t always immediately control the adversity that is raining down on and all around us. But we can take a moment – a week! – to reflect on how it can provide each of us an opportunity to reflect on ourselves and start to grow as we figure out how we can tackle the problems.

Total Body Conditioning with Penny
Join Penny today for her Total Body Conditioning class! Challenge your cardio and strengthen your muscles from head to toe with this incredibly effective no-nonsense bodyweight training.
Recommended equipment: 2 bottles of wine (if you don’t have a problem with “gripping them firmly” and won’t drop them during the workout!) or 2 water bottles. Workout can also be completed without equipment.

HUB Smoothie of the Day
What better way to wrap up today’s workout than to whip up one of Penny Phang’s wonderful recovery shakes?!?

- 16 oz nut milk/milk
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder or vanilla substitute
- 2 tbsp mixed berries
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 2 large handfuls of spinach
- 1/2 banana
- Add 1/2 avocado for extra creaminess, and healthy sustaining fats
Blend all ingredients and serve!
