“Cheerfulness is the best promoter of health and is as friendly to the mind as to the body.” – Joseph Addison
Did you know that August is Wellness Month? While we near the end of the month, we wanted to share a few strategies that you can (and should) incorporate into your daily life to reduce your stress and improve your overall wellbeing all year long!
Exercise Regularly
As great as exercise is for you physically, it can also vastly improve your wellness. When you exercise, you release endorphins, which give you a natural boost and help to decrease stress. Additionally, exercise can provide you with an outlet for your frustrations and act as a distraction. If your time is really limited, why not turn to push-ups – one of our favourite tried and true exercises – which can be completed almost anywhere and offer you numerous benefits.
Self-care tip:
No matter how busy you are, carve out time each week for your exercise routine. Even if all you can manage is a quick 45-minute workout every few days, be sure that you stick with this plan and put yourself first!
Get Enough Sleep
Sleep is one of the most important aspects of your overall wellbeing. We know that our hectic and busy schedules can sometimes make sleep hard to come by, but without it, your ability to handle stress will decrease, you’ll be less productive, and, simply put, you won’t be able to fully function. This means that you need to make a concerted effort to get a good night’s sleep. If you don’t know where to begin, these tips may be the perfect jumping off point.
Self-care tip:
Enjoy a calming herbal tea while you work to quiet your mind in the evening. If you’re still struggling to get a good night’s rest, try a warm foot bath.
Proper Nutrition
Your nutrition needs to be considered just as important to living well as exercise and sleep, as a poor diet can make you more vulnerable to stress. A busy schedule can make it difficult to find time to cook healthy meals, which may have you leaning towards unhealthy, convenient meals – but this will just exacerbate your stress. When you’re in need of a quick, filling, healthy recipe, why not give this one a try?
Self-care tip:
Try meal-prepping on the weekend. By doing this, healthy meals will be right at your fingertips all week long, removing the need to reach for unhealthy, convenient meals.
We understand that stress is part of life, but controlling the balance between good and bad stress is an essential part to improving your wellness. And while Wellness Month is coming to an end, you need to continue practicing self-care to promote your wellbeing all year long.
